Just south of Chengdu, Meishan is the home town of the Song-dynasty literary giants the 'Three Sus' — above all the poet Su Dongpo — and a gentle base near the Buddhist hills of Pengshan and Qingshen.
History & culture
In the 11th century Meishan produced Su Xun and his sons Su Shi (Dongpo) and Su Zhe, three of the most celebrated writers in Chinese history, commemorated at the riverside Sansu Shrine.

Getting there
High-speed rail (Meishan East) is ~20–30 min from Chengdu, making it an easy half-day to day trip.
Avoid the pitfalls
- The Sansu Shrine is the main draw — pair it with a nearby ancient town to fill a day.
- It's calm and cultural, not a big sightseeing checklist.
- Weekends bring Chengdu day-trippers.
