Daocheng Yading Airport is the world's highest civil airport (~4,400 m); alternatively a multi-day scenic drive from Chengdu. The reserve uses shuttle buses.
Avoid the pitfalls
- Extreme altitude (3,700–4,700 m) — acclimatise, go slow, and consider altitude precautions.
- Flying straight in to the high airport can hit you hard; rest on arrival.
- Weather is fierce and changeable; pack serious warm and waterproof gear.
